Guidelines in case of death - purpose and scope

The purpose of these follow up guidelines is to ensure that measures are taken to safeguard and follow up affected students and employees in the afthermath of the decease of a student or employee.

The guidelines describe:

  • what to do
  • considerations that should be made 
  • advice on how the various tasks can be performed

The guidelines deal with both

  • Organisational measures
  • Psychosocial follow-up

The follow-up of deaths must take place at the lowest possible level relative to the deceased. Those who work in close relation with a student or working environment know the environment well and will be able to identify its needs.

  • The procedure described in the guidelines should not be initiated if a student or employee is reported missing.
  • The guidelines do not apply to the management of emergencies on the university’s area.
