Rector Wishes a Good Summer

Rector Christen Krogh here sums up June and wishes all employees a good summer!

Summer vacation is knocking on the door, and we have left behind a semester with much activity and development at the university. I have summarized some of the spring's events here. You can also watch the recording of the digital general meeting from a couple of weeks back.

This week was also the last board meeting of the semester, where the board among other things adopted our new partial strategies. We are now another step further in the work to operationalize the university's overarching strategy. The partial strategies will soon be posted on our websites.

In the board meeting, we also discussed the financial situation for OsloMet, which means that we are forced to solve our assignments within increasingly tight frames. This is not specific to OsloMet, but applies to all higher education institutions in Norway. It will be demanding to achieve everything we want with tighter financial frames. However, I am confident that we will manage it in a way that is compatible with ordinary operations.

In addition, we made some progress in the process of arriving at the academic content at our Campus Romerike. Now, before the summer, we have focused on what kind of principles to be laid down to establish an academic activity in Lillestrøm city center. Only after the summer will we properly embark on the work of exactly which studies and subject areas should be present at the new campus. I look forward to tackling this and discussing with staff and students after everyone has had a long and well-deserved summer vacation. The plan is for the board to decide on academic content at its October meeting.

But the most important thing that has happened lately is of course not the board meeting or the plans we make for the autumn, it is the end of the spring semester. These days, about five thousand students are ending with a degree from our university. Congratulations to all those who are now nurses, midwives, pharmacist, kindergarten teachers, elementary school teachers, building engineers, data engineers, librarians, child welfare educators, auditors, or any of the countless other degrees you can achieve at the university OsloMet. And a big congratulations to all the strong academic environments that have fostered all these skilled professionals.

I wish you a relaxing and good summer vacation with friends and family, and I look forward to us together tackling another important university year from autumn!

Remember to sign up for the kick-off for employees, as a nice start to the semester.

Best regards, Christen
