Focus on research ethics
OsloMet offers new courses in research ethics. Support for employees who make research ethics assessments has been improved.
All research at OsloMet must be conducted in accordance with recognized ethical norms and rules.
"The purpose of research ethics is to promote free, good and responsible research. This is important for society to have confidence in research and research results, to protect research participants and academic communities, and to contribute to freedom and legitimacy in research" says Tanja Storsul, Vice-Rector for Research and Development.
"It is important that our employees have good insight into this. That is why we are offering new courses in research ethics this autumn, and are promoting and strengthening the support system related to research ethics assessment" says Storsul.

The course covers the minimum requirements for training in research ethics according to the Research Ethics Act, and provides knowledge of how research ethics work is organized nationally and at OsloMet.
In addition, the course contains practical training in applying research ethics norms and ethical argumentation to specific issues, and in formulating and justifying research ethics positions.
More courses for different target groups will be developed in the portfolio in the future, so stay tuned to the OsloMet-akademiet.
Important improvement work
To support and ensure that research at OsloMet is conducted in accordance with recognized ethical norms and rules, important improvement work has been done in several areas:
- OsloMet's employee pages on research ethics have been updated and have become more clear.
- A training program in research ethics has been established at OsloMet, consisting of courses in the doctoral programs and courses available to all employees.
- All faculties now have science representatives, and a forum for research ethics has been established, which is an interdisciplinary meeting place for discussion and reflection on research ethics issues.
- The Research Ethics Committee has entered a new period and the rector has appointed/reappointed members and deputy members.
