Open Access funding
There are two official channels for open access funding: The Publish-and-Read agreements with leading academic publishers, and the OsloMet Publication Fund.
The Publish-and-Read agreements primarily apply to hybrid journals, i.e., subscription-based journals that allow open access publishing for a fee. Terms and title lists for the individual Publish-and-Read agreements can be found on this page (ansatt.oslomet.no).
The OsloMet Publication Fund provides funding for fully open publications, where all content is freely available online. Funding is available for both fully open books, and articles in fully open journals. Find the terms and application forms here (ansatt.oslomet.no).

How to find funding options for a specific journal
Find the journal listing in the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers (hkdir.no). The section "Indexing" provides relevant information:
The journal is indexed as «Included in publishing agreement»:
Find the section "Publiseringsavtale" to see if OsloMet is listed among the Institutions that adhere to the agreement.

"Consortium agreement with no cost on APC": This means that the APC is covered in full by the agreement. Go to OsloMet’s list of Open Access agreements (ansatt.oslomet.no). Information about terms and author’s workflows are listed under the individual publisher.

"Consortium agreement with discount on APC": This means that only an APC discount is provided. Students and faculty may apply for additional funding from OsloMet’s Publication Fund to cover the remaining APC amount. Terms and conditions for funding may apply. Proceed to OsloMet’s Publication Fund (ansatt.oslomet.no) to find more information and an application form.
The journal is indexed as "Not included in publishing agreement":
If the journal is indexed in DOAJ and has a minimum of 1 publication point it qualifies for funding form OsloMet's Publication Fund.

Faculty members are encouraged to check the options for open access funding before submitting a manuscript.
Some of OsloMet's open access agreements provide a discount on APCs. See the list of agreements by publisher (ansatt.oslomet.no) for more details on each one.
OsloMet's Rights Retention Policy for Scholarly Articles (ansatt.oslomet.no) allows scholarly authors at OsloMet to make the final peer-reviewed manuscript publicly available without embargo through self-archiving in the institutional repository.

Do I need to apply for funding before submitting the article?
- For journals covered by a publishing agreement, the option to publish open access is done in the publisher’s submission portal. The agreement is listed as “SIKT Agreement” or similar. This triggers a message to the University Library requesting approval. Requests are handled promptly, and no further action is required from the corresponding author.
- For fully open journals not covered by a publishing agreement, students and faculty members may apply for funding from the OsloMet Publication Fund. Information about terms and conditions can be found here (ansatt.oslomet.no). Applicants are encouraged to apply before submitting the manuscript. Approvals can be withdrawn at a later date if the manuscript is not accepted.

How to handle an invoice for Article Processing Charges (APC)
- For publishing in hybrid journals covered by an agreement, no invoice is sent to the corresponding author.
- Approval letters from OsloMet’s Publication Fund contain information about invoice processing. Please send the invoice to The University Library (ub.forskningsstotte@oslomet.no) and refer to the case number.
- The option to apply for funding from OsloMet’s Publication Fund is still available after publication. Proceed to this page to see the terms and conditions (ansatt.oslomet.no). Funding applications are processed promptly by the University Library.
