New strategy adopted

On December 15th, the University Board adopted OsloMet's new strategy from 2024. The strategy is intended to provide direction for the university up to 2050.

"We should congratulate ourselves on a good strategy," stated one of the board members when the unanimous board adopted the new university strategy for OsloMet. The board emphasized that there has been a thorough and inclusive work process that has resulted in a very good outcome that the university will now adhere to.

The strategy is built around some of our time's most important long-term societal challenges and areas where OsloMet can make a special contribution.

The strategy is formulated as commitments that express how OsloMet's academic activities will contribute to solving societal challenges and creating improvements.

"I am glad that the board has adopted the direction we want for the university going forward. With this strategy, we show that OsloMet, with its long historical lines, also has an important role in developing society further far into the future," says Rector Christen Krogh.

"Our new strategy not only says what OsloMet is good at, but also what we are good for. With the education and research of our academic communities, we meet people's everyday needs, from cradle to grave - needs that change and that we must find new ways to address, but that never go away," says the rector.

Thorough process

The strategy process has been ongoing since early autumn 2022. The new strategy has been developed and anchored through several rounds of input and dialogue with both our own organization and society.

"Thanks to all students, employees, and partners who have contributed to the development of our new university strategy," says Rector Christen Krogh.

"Your input, questions, and objections have enabled us to jointly arrive at a good common management tool. The next step in the work is to determine what the strategy should mean for the work at each individual unit," says Krogh.

Sub-strategies and implementation

The next step in the work to implement the strategy is the development of sub-strategies for education, research, and contributions to societal improvements.

The sub-strategies will be anchored in the Education Committee, the Research and Development Committee, and the Innovation Forum, where both the faculties, centers, administration, and PhD candidates and students are well represented.

The sub-strategies are scheduled to be adopted by the university board before summer 2024.

Strategic plans at the faculties

After the sub-strategies have been decided, the faculties and the shared administrative services will be responsible for developing their own strategic plans to make it easier to fulfill the main and sub-strategies.

The strategic plans at the faculty and center level should balance fulfilling overarching strategy documents while contributing to strategic academic development close to the core activities.

The rector will ask the faculties and centers to ensure good involvement of students and employees in the work.

The strategic plans will be adopted in the faculty boards. For the shared administrative services, the plans will be adopted by level two managers after consideration in the rectorate-directorate meeting (RD).

The University Board will be informed about the strategic plans.
