This spring, OsloMet is working purposefully to improve the student environment at Kjeller. Here is an overview of the measures.

"There is a lot going on at Kjeller", says Senior Adviser in the Department for Academic Affairs, Wenche Larsen.

She coordinates the work being done to improve the student environment at Kjeller.

The work is a collaboration between Wenche, representatives from all faculties at Kjeller as well as the Department of Facilities Management, the Department of External Relations and Communication and the Student Parliament. All measures that are initiated are based on input from the students at Kjeller.

"There is no point in starting measures that the students do not use or do not need", says Wenche.

Friday Coffee

Friday Coffee, which is organized every Friday at Kjeller, gives OsloMet an opportunity to come into direct contact with the students. The event has become an important gathering point for the students. According to Wenche, students from most of the study programs come to Friday Coffee - also students from the group-based studies.

"It is clear that this means a lot to the students", says Wenche.

From time to time, OsloMet has used Friday Coffee to give students information about student services and activities when they come by.

The Learning Support Centre is one of the entities that has come and talked about their services. In April, the municipality was present to get input in the work to develop the student town of Lillestrøm.

Cooperation with Lillestrøm Municipality

This spring, OsloMet has collaborated more closely with Lillestrøm Municipality on measures that will benefit both the municipality and the students.

"The students in the current cohort have not been satisfied with the start of their studies. Both we and the municipality want to do something about that", says Wenche.

Campus Kjeller helps the municipality gain insight into the student groups and the work with the student environment at OsloMet. The municipality takes this and direct input from the students into account in further work on creating a student strategy. The strategy will make Lillestrøm even more exciting for students.

Entry booth

A collection booth has been set up in Vestre gate at Kjeller. Here, students can make written submissions to measures that can improve the student environment on campus. The input is followed up with those concerned, such as SiO, the Department of Facilities Management and Lillestrøm Municipality.

So far, more than 140 entries have been received for the stall.

"Many inputs are such a low threshold that we can do something with them already now", says Wenche.

Student assistants

OsloMet advertises three 20 % positions as student assistants at Kjeller. The call for applications has a deadline of 3rd of May. The tasks of the student assistants will be to facilitate social meeting places on the Kjeller campus and to inform the students about the support offers we have.
