New user interface for databases from EBSCO
EBSCO has launched a new user interface for databases that OsloMet has access to. The deadline for moving custom folders is 18 December.
EBSCO has launched a new user interface for EBSCOhost. This includes an updated look for popular databases such as Academic Search Ultimate, Business Source Elite, and CINAHL. According to the provider, the purpose of this change is to make the interface more user-friendly, with a focus on universal design.
In addition, new functionality is introduced, such as personal dashboards for saving materials and searches (ebsco.com).
Key Dates and Transition Period
The transition to the new EBSCOhost user interface is mandatory. For OsloMet users, this will occur on Friday 19 December.
Users who have already created an account in the classic interface will be able to use the same account in the new interface with the same username and password.
During the period leading up to 19 December, both the classic interface and a preview of the new interface will be available to OsloMet users:
- New interface available for preview (ebsco.com).
- Classic interface: Accessible via Oria (oria.no).
From 19 December the new interface will be the only one available to OsloMet users. Existing Oria links to EBSCOhost will automatically redirect to the new interface. The classic interface will be completely unavailable.
Migration of Accounts, Saved Searches
If you have an EBSCOhost account, it will be automatically migrated to the new interface. This also applies to most of the saved searches. Information about the migration (ebsco.com).
Custom folders in classic EBSCOhost (action needed)
Existing Custom folders in the classic interface will not be automatically migrated to the new interface.
To secure the content in Custom folders:
- Up to and including 18 December: Move the content of custom folders to My Folder (ebsco.com). This will automatically migrate the content to the new interface.
- Between 19–31 December: Follow the instructions from EBSCO (ebsco.com) to download the folder structure from the classic interface and recreate it in the new interface, if necessary.
This functionality will be available until 31 December 2025.
Summary of Key Dates
- 18 December: Final deadline to move content in the classic interface from Custom Folders to My Folder.
- 19 December: The new interface is activated, and the classic interface is no longer available.
- 31 December: Last opportunity to download Excel file with content from custom folders in the classic interface.
