OsloMet establishes sustainability council

OsloMet's new sustainability council will provide advice to the university leadership team and ensure a strategic commitment to sustainability issues.

OsloMet enters the new year with a strengthened effort to reach the sustainability goals.

A new phase in OsloMets sustainability work

From having consisted of various strategic as well as concrete initiatives in research projects and education, the coordination of OsloMet's sustainability efforts was defined in a project in 2019/20.

In line with the action plan for sustainability (in Norwegian), OsloMet has now established a sustainability council.

"We are now entering a phase of consolidation, in order to integrate sustainability issues into all parts of OsloMet's operations. These efforts will be further developed in the years to come", says Vice-Chancellor Per Martin Norheim-Martinsen, who will be leading the council.

Mandate and members

The new Sustainability Council will begin its work in January 2021 and has four main areas of responsibility.

The Council shall:

  • assist and advise rector and his leadership team in institutional matters related to sustainability
  • be an arena for dialogue across the units and with the students, to strengthen OsloMet's efforts on sustainable development in research, education, campus operations and communication
  • be able to address difficult dilemmas in sustainability issues
  • ensure the university's joint strategic work for sustainability

The council has 12 members who have been appointed for a period of three years. The student representatives are appointed for one year at a time. The first meeting of the council is 28 January.
