Contribute to buddy recruitment
The search for this year's buddies is well underway, and the buddy boards are working diligently on recruiting. As an employee, you can also contribute.
In order for OsloMet to have enough buddies, we need up to 1,000 students to volunteer from all bachelor's programs.
As an employee, you can help by sharing the registration form with the students you have contact with in your everyday life (student.oslomet.no).
Contribute to ensuring that this fall's new OsloMet students are well received!
Meaningful to be a buddy
This fall, 1,000 buddies will be ready to welcome the new OsloMet students. Pierre Boniface has been a buddy four times.
– The experiences you get during the buddy week are not something you want to miss, says Pierre. He previously completed a master's Applied Data and Information Technology (ACIT) at OsloMet. He is now a PhD research fellow at Oceanlab.
Although technical equipment and modern premises are important, they are not what he highlights as the most valuable resources during the study period. The most important thing for him has been his fellow students and the interaction they have had with each other.
Therefore, Pierre has almost made it a tradition to be buddy. Each time he has met new and interesting people, helped them get in touch with each other as well as getting to know the institute.
He thinks it has been time well invested, since cohesion and academic commitment are crucial to success at the course. That's why he encourages everyone who has time to spare to try being a buddy – even if they think it's a little scary.
– It's not something you do alone, so take the chance and join in, says Pierre.
Important with social network
He believes that the buddy week is particularly valuable for students where social activities do not come naturally. For them, it is easy to isolate themselves at home instead of showing up on campus. Pierre believes that there are few who manage to complete their studies alone. It is therefore important to get a social network early in your studies.
– Just keeping up with all the Canvas messages can be a two-man job, says Pierre.
He himself has seen the most socially uncomfortable students take the chance and jump into it. Usually, they end up finding fellow students with similar interests and making friendships that last throughout their studies.
– Of course, you will find some like-minded people. The others have already chosen the same study as you. So you must have something in common, says Pierre.
