The library in P48 is open again

This week, the library at Pilestredet 48 reopened after renovations.

The library at Pilestredet 48 (P48) has been closed since last autumn for refurbishment. Now, students can use new study spaces, group study rooms, and borrow and return books as before.

– We have more study spaces and more varied student workspaces. To achieve this, we have reduced the printed book collection, says library director Hege Undem Store.

– Students are diverse, and therefore we have thought of variation in the design of study places. The solution was developed in collaboration with student representatives and an interior architect. We think it has turned out really nice, and hope for a "Deichman effect" with record loans and visits, says Undem Store.

The students are back

The library was established at a time when it was not common for students to have laptops and mobile phones. A part of the upgrade also includes power outlets at the study spaces. And the students have quickly found their way back to the library.

– The students have flocked in the first few days and almost all of the places have been used. I get quite moved when I walk around the premises and see students in every nook and cranny, and wonder where they have been while the library was closed, says the library director.

The libraries at Pilestredet 35 (P35) and Pilestredet 32 (P32) are also getting a fresh coat of paint and new study spaces, but the libraries are open as usual. Some carpentry work remains to get the last study spaces ready in the P48 library. By the end of April, everything should be fully renovated according to the plan, and an official marking of the newly opened and renovated libraries is also planned.
