European top position for Ann-Helén Bay
OsloMet professor Ann-Helén Bay has been appointed chair of the general assembly of the European Social Survey European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ESS ERIC).
"This is a great recognition. The European Social Survey is important for cross-national research and holds significant relevance in European social research," says Tanja Storsul, the Vice-Rector for Research and Development.
The European Social Survey is a cross-national survey which is conducted across Europe every two years. The survey measures The survey measures the attitudes, beliefs and behaviour patterns of diverse populations in more than thirty nations. The European Social Survey was established in 2001 through the initiative of the European Science Foundation and obtained the status of a consortium under the EU's research infrastructure program in 2013. ESS is an essential source for research on differences and similarities between countries in Europe and is used nationally, including in education, by the media, and public authorities.
The general assembly, which will now be led by Bay, is the highest governing body in the consortium that operates the research infrastructure.
Bay was a member of ESS's Scientific Advisory Board for several years and looks forward to contributing to the further development of ESS in her role as chair of the general assembly:
"I see the European Social Survey as a significant gift to empirically oriented international social research, and I look forward to taking on the role as chair" says Bay.
