Guidelines for the assessment of scientific competence
These guidelines apply to the position categories Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and University Teacher.
Assessment of competence in connection with appointment, promotion and transition between positions at the same level is based on the following:
- The competence requirements for the individual position, cf. Chapter 3 of the Regulations relating to the Universities and University Colleges Act (lovdata.no, in Norwegian)
- Advertisement text and possible job consideration

In addition, the following is practiced at OsloMet
Professor and Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis)
Academic competence as a Professor or Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis) requires a doctoral degree.
Associate Professor (dosent)
For qualifications as an Associate Professor (dosent), OsloMet sets additional requirements for research competence in line with the requirement in § 1-3 (1) a of the former Regulations on Appointment and Promotion: "Documented extensive research and development work at a high level aimed at the professional field."
DORA
OsloMet has endorsed the principles and committed the institution to follow the recommendations in the The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment- the DORA declaration (in Norwegian). This means that research results (including datasets and software) must be assessed and evaluated in terms of content and quality.
