Tanja Storsul to lead AI Expert Group

Tanja Storsul, the Vice-Rector for Research and Development at OsloMet, is set to lead an advisory expert group on artificial intelligence (AI).

The Research Council of Norway has established this advisory expert group to support the national initiative for increased research and knowledge development in artificial intelligence (AI).

The government has allocated one billion Norwegian kroner for AI research over the next five years.

Leadership from OsloMet

Tanja Storsul, the Vice-Rector for Research and Development at OsloMet, is excited to lead the expert group's work in this important field.

"Artificial intelligence as a technology is rapidly evolving and increasingly influencing both us and society. We need to understand more about the technology, its consequences, and how it can be utilized and developed for the benefit of society," says Storsul.

"The expert group's task is to provide advice to the Research Council on how the AI research initiative should be shaped. It's a significant and important challenge, and I'm pleased that the group consists of many competent members," she adds.

Three Focus Areas for the Initiative

The foundation of this work is the three areas that the government has identified for the AI initiative:

  • Research on the consequences of artificial intelligence.
  • Research on artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
  • Research on how the technology can be used for innovation in business and public administration.

"All three of these areas are crucial and closely interconnected. As the technology impacts us, it is also shaped and developed through its usage," Storsul explains.

"I hope that we can contribute to the development of a comprehensive initiative where we gain better insight into the technology and its effects on us," she concludes.
