Semester Start Survey 2025: More Responses, Better Understanding

On October 14, our new students received the Start of Studies Survey 2025. The more students who respond, the easier it is to identify what we can improve in the start of studies.

New Semester Start Survey Provided New Insights

Since 2023, OsloMet has sent out the Start of Studies Survey in a new format, with fewer questions and a focus on topics such as sense of belonging, expectations, and academic coping.
Two to three months into the semester, around 60 percent of new students report feeling part of a study environment. We saw that many felt fairly confident they would complete their studies. Among those who were uncertain, a lack of academic mastery was a key reason.
When the results were presented at departments and study programmes, many recognized the importance of achieving a good response rate at the programme level. At one programme, measures were implemented for the current cohort after a significant number of students indicated uncertainty about completing their education. At other programmes, the results led to discussions about how to facilitate more group activities at the start of studies.

Will We Increase the Response Rate This Year?

Last year, 35 percent of those surveyed responded, and this year we hope to receive even more responses. As a lecturer, you can help increase the number of respondents in your study programme. Set aside 3 minutes at the end of a lecture to encourage students to complete the survey.

This year’s Start of Studies Survey was sent out on October 14, and results will be published in early January.

Studiebarometeret 2025

This October, our 2nd- and 5th-year students also received a survey: the Study Barometer 2025. This is the national survey that asks students whether they are satisfied with their study programme. The responses are actively used by academic communities, so please help increase the response rate for this one as well.
The Study Barometer 2025 was sent out on October 21, and results will be published on studiebarometeret.no in February.
