Results from the Work Environment Survey are here

In this year's work environment survey, OsloMet scores slightly above the average for the higher education sector in many areas. At the same time, the university has areas for improvement.

Over 1700 employees at OsloMet responded to the work environment survey ARK, giving a response rate of over 70 percent. The survey maps a range of areas, and the results will be reviewed in the various units in the coming weeks.

"Thank you to everyone who responded to this year's survey. This is an important tool for us to be able to work purposefully to maintain and develop good cooperation and a good work environment at the university," says Rector Christen Krogh.

OsloMet has made progress in six out of eight thematic areas since the previous work environment survey in 2022.

Collegial Community and Support

In the thematic area "Interaction and Support," the progress is greatest, but OsloMet still scores slightly below the average for the higher education sector.

"It is especially pleasing that so many report having good collegial communities at OsloMet, where they both receive and give support, and where there is room to try and fail," says Krogh.

Many employees also feel that they can express their opinions without fearing negative reactions from colleagues.

Internal Information Flow

"We also see that we have improved in internal information flow. Here, we are now at the average in the higher education sector. This is an area we will continue to focus on moving forward," says Rector Christen Krogh.

At the same time, OsloMet has seen a slight decline since 2022 in two thematic areas - "Learning and Development" and "Our Daily Work." The results vary from unit to unit. Safety representatives and HR will, in collaboration with leaders and the units, continue to work on finding good measures for improvements.

The Way Forward

The ARK work environment survey is not just a measurement, but part of important the development work. The results should be used by leaders and employees at all organizational levels together.

"We place great emphasis on having a good process for follow-up work. All leaders have received their reports, and the safety representatives at the various units have received the relevant reports," says HR Director Randi Stene.

Before Easter, all units will have conducted a feedback meeting. Furthermore, the units will develop action plans with measures related to the working environment.

"We will also work together with the leadership teams to see if there are areas for improvement we can work on across units at OsloMet," says Stene.

Unacceptable Behavior

In this work environment survey, there were also questions about unacceptable behavior, such as discrimination, bullying, harassment, violence, and sexual harassment.

The ARK Secretariat at NTNU will deliver the results related to unacceptable behavior in a separate report in March. The results will be aggregated for the entire university and will not be broken down by unit.
