The Unit for Academic Language and Practice offers a course in oral language skills for international employees in May and June 2019 at campus Pilestredet. This course is now fully booked. The next course will be in Autumn 2019:
August 13th.-September 5th. 2019 the course in oral language skills for international employees is offered again. Where: campus Pilestredet. When: Tuesdays 2-4 pm and Thursdays 10-12 am.
This practical language course is designed for international recruited members of the academic staff at Oslo Metropolitan University. This eight-session workshop provides participants with an opportunity to improve their Norwegian skills and develop confidence in presenting, lecturing and supervising in Norwegian.
We offer these Norwegian language courses in Autumn 2019:
A1 level, beginners' course (for employees and spouses/partners)
A2 level, beginners'+ course (for employees and spouses/partners)
B1 level, intermediate course (for employees only)
- B2 level, intermediate+ course (for employees only)
The courses aim at developing your Norwegian language and culture skills, and they are free of charge.
The registration is open until August 19th 12.00h.

Practice Norwegian and other languages – attend the language café!
The café is open once a month between 3.30 and 5.30 pm in the Library p48, first floor,
Coffee, tea and snacks will be served.
At the language café you may meet colleagues who either speak, or wants to learn, languages such as: Amharic, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Persian, German, Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Tibetan, Urdu, Vietnamese and ”älvdalsk”.
Feel free to drop by at any time between 3.30 and 5.30, and stay as long as you feel like. Welcome!

Practice language with a colleague! Register here and we will help you find a language partner. (This depends on whether there are otherswith coherent language interest).
Meetings with a language parter provides intensive language practice by allowing for alternatively practicing each partner's mother tongue. It is up to each pair to decide how they will conduct their meetings, You may for instance have lunch together, go to a language cafe or maybe take a trip to the Vigeland Park.
OsloMet’s Unit for Academic Language and Practice offers several courses and workshops in spoken and written academic English.

Reading to Write: Preparing to Publish
This workshop focuses on developing reading strategies and rhetorical and linguistic awareness that will help you develop your own writing. It is particularly suitable for PhD candidates at an early stage of their PhD and researchers with limited publication experience.

Oral Communication and Presentation Skills
This three-session workshop provides participants with an opportunity to practice their communication skills and develop confidence in delivering academic presentations in English. This workshop is particularly suitable for PhD candidates and researchers with little experience in presenting in English.

Academic Writing Course, fall 2019
Semester-long course for PhD candidates and researchers who are actively engaged in writing articles, papers or dissertations in English.
Writing for International Journals: Two-Day Workshop
This intensive workshop mixes discussion of writing principles and strategies with dedicated time for writing and working on your own journal article.

Writing the Introduction to Article-Based Dissertations
Three-session workshop focusing on writing the introduction to article-based dissertations, often referred to in Norwegian as the “kappe”. It is particularly suitable for PhD candidates who are at the kappe-writing stage of their PhD.
