Research Ethics Committee

The Research Ethics Committee serves as the Committee for Research Integrity at OsloMet. The committee handles individual cases where there is suspicion of scientific misconduct or breaches of good research practice at the university.

The committee’s mandate and guidelines were last revised and approved by rector's decision 16 May 2024.

  • Mandate

    The Research Ethics Committee serves as OsloMet’s Committee for Research Integrity, in accordance with § 6 of the Research Ethics Act.

    The committee is subordinate to the Rector and reports directly to the Rector. The Rector delegates authority to the committee in the following matters:

    1. The committee shall review and provide statements in individual cases involving possible breaches of recognised research ethics norms and scientific misconduct, arising from conflicts or complaints related to suspected violations of such norms at the university.
      The committee’s statements must be in writing and include a reasoned assessment with a conclusion, in accordance with OsloMet’s guidelines for handling individual cases of possible breaches of recognized research ethics norms and scientific misconduct.

    2. In addition to handling individual cases, the committee shall contribute to ensuring that research at OsloMet is conducted within the framework of national laws, OsloMet’s ethical guidelines for research, and the guidelines developed by the national research ethics committees by:

      • Providing input to teaching/training in research ethics at OsloMet

      • Advising on research ethics related to OsloMet’s research upon request from university leadership

      • Proposing measures to raise awareness of research ethics among OsloMet’s staff and students when deemed necessary

    3. The committee shall stay informed about national and international research ethics issues.
      Members are appointed for a four-year term.
