OsloMets Oceanlab contributes to project on sail technology

The project has received funding to develop new climate- and environmentally friendly solutions for the business sector, and NOK 8 million is allocated to Oceanlab’s work.

The funding is provided through the Green Platform Initiative, which is financed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and jointly administered by the Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway and Siva.

The WINTEGRATE project, in which OsloMet participates as the only university partner, is owned by Kongsberg Maritime and coordinated and led by SINTEF Ocean.

Reducing CO₂ emissions from ships

The project aims to reduce CO₂ emissions from ships by using sail technology (Wind Propulsion Systems) integrated into the vessel’s other systems to reduce fuel consumption.

«These were delightful news. With an externally funded budget of NOK 8 million over three years, Oceanlab’s role is to contribute with cybernetics expertise and provide knowledge that is directly applicable to industrial applications”, explains Professor Vahid Hassani, who is involved in the project at OsloMet.
