Join us to shape the future

Do you need a platform to show your commitment, professional interests or visions for a just and sustainable future? OsloMet invites students, employees and stakeholders to contribute with events when the annual sustainability conference comes to Oslo on February 2 and 3, 2026.

OsloMet and the National Committee for Sustainability in Higher Education invite you to the SDG Conference 2026: Education Unscripted – The Quest for Truth, Collaborative Transformation & Solidarity (uni.oslomet.no).

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are to be achieved by 2030 with education and lifelong learning as a central key, and how do we achieve that?

The conference brings together actors from all over the country to rethink how education through collaboration can help meet the greatest challenges of our time, which include the climate crisis and loss of biodiversity, a welfare society under pressure, declining trust in knowledge and democratic values and institutions, war and conflict, and economic and technological unpredictability.

On Monday, February 2, international speakers will contribute their insights, provocations and reflections from Oslo City Hall. On Tuesday, February 3, it is open to everyone to contribute with self-organized events. The main event on this day will take place at Deichmann Bjørvika in central Oslo.

OsloMet invites student and project groups, organizations, associations, companies and institutions to participate with their own events during the conference's open day on Tuesday, February 3. These can take place anywhere – we hope that all learning places will be activated on this day.

The working title for the open day is "The future is sustainable!", and the goal is to highlight ideas, practices and visions that point out paths towards a just and sustainable future.

We are looking for events that explore themes such as:

  • new and surprising arenas for learning, education and formation
  • lifelong and "lifewide" learning
  • silent or overlooked knowledge and alternative partnerships
  • freedom of expression and academic freedom
  • cultural expressions such as art, music, dance and performance

Students and young people are especially encouraged to register their own initiatives.

Submit a short description of your event (title, theme, time, location and organizer) here (nettskjema.no).

The registration deadline for events at Deichmann Bjørvika or at premises OsloMet is responsible for is January 9, 2026.

You get a platform – we provide support

OsloMet offers this support for self-organized events related to the SDG conference:

  • free graphic material and suggestions for activities and format
  • link to your event on the SDG conference website
  • inspiration from the conference's main program on February 2 (streamed)
  • opportunity to borrow premises at Deichman Bjørvika or in the Bjørvika area
  • opportunity to include the main message from your own event in the conference summary/statement

Main program open day

The conference open day on February 3 will explore how higher education can collaborate with society to address the global polycrisis.

The day will start with “The Future is Here!” – a streamed session at Deichmann Bjørvika with perspectives on place-based partnerships and sustainable education. This will be followed by a series of self-organized events under the “The Future is Sustainable!” tab.

The closing event, “The Future is Now!” (open registration coming soon), will summarize the conference’s learning points and inspire action for a sustainable future – all in spectacular surroundings with a view of the sunset over the Oslofjord.
