How can municipalities cater to children with a refugee background in the best way?

We present new research that examines how municipalities and local communities work to include children and young people in families with a refugee background. What experiences do municipalities have and what are the children's own experiences?

Welcome to a seminar where NOVA at OsloMet and Oslo Economics will present research from their new report.

Everyone who encounters children and young people in families with a refugee background must be prepared to meet children's different and complex needs.
How can we ensure that children's needs are taken care of in the settlement process? How can we safeguard children's right to participation? How can schools best facilitate teaching to a group with very different experiences and school backgrounds?

How should adult care givers handle children’s experiences of racism and exclusion? And how can we ensure that all children have access to extracurricular activities?

Around 40 000 children under the age of 18 with a refugee background live in Norway. Some live in large cities, and some live in small municipalities. Some reside far away from friends and extracurricular activities.

What does children's everyday life look like? Are their experiences and opinions heard? How can we as a society receive children and young people with refugee backgrounds in the best possible way?
