Descriptions of functions for persons with course responsibility

The person with course responsibility has the academic responsibility for a course. They are responsible for the planning, implementation, and development of the course. When the person responsible for the course do not themselves carry out the task, they have the responsibility of making sure the tasks are completed and have an overview of the process as a whole.

The person with course responsibility has the following responsibilities and tasks:

In general

  • Be familiar with the relevant provisions set out in laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Be familiar with OsloMet’s quality system for education.
  • Be a coordinator if there are several lecturers.
  • Be familiar with the programme description to ensure a complete picture of the course’s role in the education. 
  • Be well acquainted with the course description and learning outcome descriptions, and make sure the course is carried out in accordance with these.
  • Ensure consistency between descriptions of learning outcomes, forms of exams, and forms of assessment.

Before the start of the semester

  • Plan and coordinate the teaching students receive and assessments.
  • Provide information to scheduling within set deadlines.
  • Provide information to exam planning within set deadlines.
  • Register the syllabus in a digital syllabus tool within the set deadline.
  • Revise the course in EpN within the set deadline.
  • Prepare the course in the university’s digital learning platform. 

During the semester

  • Provide students with relevant information in the learning platform.
  • Have a dialogue with the student representative.
  • Follow up on students in practical training and collaborate with the practical training establishments (applies to courses that involves practical training)
  • Prepare exam assignments and grading guidelines.
  • Contact examiners and provide necessary information.  
  • Be available for questions during the exam.
  • Carry out grading of student’s exams within set deadlines.
  • Carry out suitability assessments, possibly in collaboration with course lecturer.
  • Carry out the course evaluation and develop quality-improving measures in collaboration with the students.
  • Inform the students about the follow-up of course evaluations and measures.

At the end of the semester

  • Write a course report
  • Assess the need for course revisions

Description of functions for persons with study programme and course responsibilities at OsloMet is decided by the Education Committee. The faculties make local adjustments.
