Quality work at course level

Quality work at course level

Quality work at course level is aimed at ensuring that all courses offered are updated and relevant, and include suitable learning activities, and that the students achieve the expected learning outcomes adopted for each individual course.

The basis for quality work on the course level is defined in OsloMet's quality assurance system. There must be consistency between learning outcomes, forms of learning and forms of assessment.

Persons responsible for courses are also responsible for quality work at course level.

OsloMet’s quality system

The quality system comprises all study programmes at OsloMet: bachelor's, master’s and PhD programmes as well as continuing and further education. The system applies to the whole course of study from the time students applies for admission until the studies are completed and the student is working. The quality system is built around the three levels: course, study programme, and programme and course portfolio.

Course

Every third time a course is completed, the students shall be given the opportunity to answer a final evaluation. Other than that, the person with course responsibility can themselves choose how the evaluation is to be carried out. It can be useful to discuss forms of evaluation with the students. For example, can the student representative be invited to give input.

Different types of evaluation have different advantages and disadvantages. A final evaluation gives the opportunity for feedback from students who have completed the entire course, and therefore have a more complete overview of the course as a whole. At the same time, a late evaluation makes it hard to both use the feedback to adjust a course in progress, and to respond to the students that provide the feedback. Interim evaluation gives a good opportunity to make changes that are noticeable for the students that provide the feedback but does not inform us as much about how the students reach their learning outcomes. It is possible to combine the tools, and both give students the opportunity for a short feedback on the most important areas and give them opportunity for an anonymous final evaluation. It can be useful to see the cross-cutting surveys at programme level and use these as a starting point for dialogue with the students.

You can read more about the tasks and responsibilities for persons with course responsibility at Descriptions of functions for persons with course responsibility and Guidance for persons with course responsibility.
