Mapping programme and course portfolio

Mapping programme and course portfolio

OsloMet’s programme and course portfolio is regularly mapped.

In addition to the annual quality reporting there is a separate model of analysis for developing and mapping the programme and course portfolio. The following dimensions are monitored: Public demand and strategic significance, recruitment, academic sustainability, and economic sustainability. The data sources are many. On this page you will find an overview of earlier mappings, future mappings, and an overview of the data the mappings are based on.

OsloMet is a big educational institution that offers a wide range of educations on all levels within higher education. The educations offered is to meet several needs, e.g., the labour market’s future need for competence and students’ preferences. It is also to express the university’s academic profile and uniqueness.

OsloMet’s programme and course portfolio has been mapped in recent years, and a model for mapping have been developed, see the section for OsloMet’s model for analysis for development of programme and course portfolio. Programme and course portfolio management means that decisions about OsloMet’s educations needs to be made on the basis of mapping and what strategy one has for development of the portfolio.

OsloMet’s model for analysis for development of programme and course portfolio:

Changed after board meeting 10th February 2015.

Public demand / Strategic significance

  • Consider the labour market and society’s needs for candidates with the competence acquired through the study programme.
  • Consider regional and national division of labour

Recruitment

  • Consider student demand for the study programme

Academic sustainability

  • Consider the production of credits
  • Consider the relationship between number of students per scholarly employee
  • Consider the degree t which the students achieve the learning outcomes described in the programme descriptions

Economic sustainability

  • Consider the economic sustainability of the study programmes, i.e., the revenues versus costs.

(An overall assessment of these dimensions is the basis for the analysis).

The data the analyses are based on

Samfunnsmessig etterspørsel/Strategisk betydning

Recruitment

The number of active students per financed place of study per academic year (the number of students per financed place of study is an expression of the degree of enrolment: How large share of the financed places of study are utilized at the study programme level and the faculty level.)

The number of first-choice applicants (samordnaopptak.no) shows the study programme’s attractiveness among the applicants.

Academic sustainability

Economic sustainability

A calculation template has been developed for assessing economic sustainability, i.e., the revenues versus costs. The template is updated once a year and the latest version can be obtained by contacting the department of finance (ORV).
