It is typical to say that when communicating science (or social science) to a wider public, storytelling is important. But science communication courses often alert us to the importance of storytelling without examining the elements of storytelling.
This three-hour workshop aims to go in a different direction: to unpack what storytelling means in a science communication context and to see what elements make up story in science communication. We will look at some examples and break them down into their constituent parts - characters, goals, conflicts, obstacles, resolutions - and begin thinking about applying these elements of story to our own science communication projects.
