Improve your line management communication skills

template.back.to.overview Improve your line management communication skills

As a leader you are responsible for making sure that the information you receive reaches the employees below you in the organisation/employees you are responsible for. It is also your responsibility as a line manager to make sure that the information from your unit reaches the relevant target groups.
  1. Implement regular meetings in your unit every week or every two weeks. In the meetings, you and your mid-level managers provide each other with short orientations about important issues that everyone need to know. You may give a report relating to the achievement of objectives and change the course of your work.
  2. Choose one internal communication channel. All employees in the unit should be present at the same platform. Examples of communication channels may be Teams, Sharepoint or other communication channels. The most important thing is that you all know how to reach each other – and as a leader, you may decide where.
  3. Use the common communication channels. If you are providing others at OsloMet with information, use our most important internal communication channel, tilsatt.hioa.no/en. Read more about the internal communication channels.
  4. Remember that communication is part of your job. Almost everything we do, trigger a need for communication. In accordance with the Line Principle applicable to governmental institutions in Norway, information and communication follows the issue in question. As a leader you must require that the employees attend to the information aspect of their work. Use the tool Make a communication plan.
